The 50-year-old former Anfield stalwart is a regular pundit on German-language television for the Champions League and Bundesliga, offering his expert opinion from having played at the elite level. However, the ex-Bayern Munich man was unable to give his thoughts on his old side as they defeated Manchester United 4-3 at the Allianz Arena.

Hamman began work as normal for Sky Sports Austria on Wednesday evening as the broadcastgot underway with Real Madrid against Union Berlin. But he quickly disappeared from screens.

Weiss soon clarified the situation as viewers began to notice the disappeared of the former Liverpool man. She said: "Didi Hamann is unfortunately ill and lost his voice during the course of the show. That's why we sent Didi home."

According to BILD, Hamann is thought to have had a poorly voice, hence being sent home. Sky Sports Austria made light of the 59-time Germany international's disappearing act, flashing up a tongue-in-cheek graphic that showed Stankovic being substituted onto the broadcast in place of Hamann.

Despite his enforced absence from the rest of the show, Hamann would have no doubt enjoyed watching his former side dismantle Erik ten Hag's woeful United at the Allianz Arena. The Bundesliga champions dominated a one-side encounter, with Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, Harry Kane and Mathys Tel inflicting the damage in a 4-3 scoreline.
