Liverpool hero Martin Skrtel’s new look after retirement leaves fans ‘terrified’
An increase in hair transplant treatments would suggest many footballers are precious over their locks – but one former Liverpool star isn't one of them.
At least that appears to be the case after ex-Anfield defender Martin Skrtel has appeared with a transformed look after retiring from the professional sport last year. The former Slovakia captain called time on a 21-year career in 2022, much of which saw him sport an iconic skinhead that only enhanced his intimidation factor.
But despite any assumption that hairstyle – or lack thereof – was enforced upon 38-year-old Skrtel, he's proved quite the opposite to be true. In fact, a fresh picture underlining that point left some supporters in an even greater state of dread.

Responding to a photo of the 104-times capped centre-back showing off his bulging kit collection, one social media user hilariously commented: "The fact he could grow a full head of hair this whole time and he still spent his 20’s rocking a whole skinhead is terrifying."
Another responded: "Sorry! This guys chose to be bald? That's mad! Why didn’t he just grow his hair. . ." And a fourth admirer chimed in: "He looks good with hair, he always looked like he was out for blood during his playing days."

Others were quick to flood the comments section with compliments of how handsome Skrtel looked in his new form. But perhaps its was just Merseyside that took its toll on the player, who started re-sprouting his hair as soon as he left Liverpool for Fenerbahce in 2016.
The Slovak spent eight years at Anfield, winning the League Cup in 2012 and reaching the final of the FA Cup that same season. That was also the year he was named Liverpool Player of the Year and lifted his nation's Player of the Year award for the fourth and final time.

After leaving Fenerbahce in 2019, Skrtel signed for Serie A side Atalanta only to depart the club three years later, which was at least partly attributed to his wife, Barbora. He swiftly returned to Istanbul with Basaksehir and won the Super Lig in his first season before signing for Spartak Trnava in 2021, where he retired the following year.
Since taking his leave of the pitch, Skrtel has taken on work as a scour for the Slovak giants but continues to play locally for boyhood club Hajskala Raztocno. And instead of sparking fear in foes these days, it's the former Red's devilish good looks that are likely to distract the opposition.
