Liverpool look set to miss out on the signing of RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer, with Bayern Munich reportedly closing in on a deal to land the 25-year-old at the end of the season. The Reds have been linked with Laimer’s services over the last few months as a result of his form for Leipzig, who are widely expected to lose him on a free transfer in the summer.
Liverpool are said to be in the market for at least one new midfielder to shore up their ranks in the engine room after struggling with a number of injuries in the position since the beginning of the campaign. They were said to be eyeing a potential move for Laimer but it seems as though Bayern Munich have jumped the queue to snap him up for themselves in advance of next season.
The German champions are nearing an agreement with Laimer on personal terms to bring him to the Allianz Arena as a free agent, according to Fabrizio Romano. It is said that the two parties are close to confirming the deal, with the player keen on joining Bayern Munich in spite of Liverpool’s interest in his services.
He is said to have received approaches from at least one English club over the last few months but has his heart set on a move to Bayern Munich, while Julian Nagelsmann is thought to have admired Laimer from a distance since 2021. Negotiations are said to be moving into the final stages as things stand, with the relevant paperwork set to be completed at some point in the not-too-distant future.

Laimer has registered just six appearances for Leipzig this season after suffering a torn ligament back in September but has scored 11 goals and assisted 18 times in 167 games during his time at the club. He was targeted by Liverpool earlier this year but ultimately ended up staying in Germany before insisting that he is not overly keen on a move to the Premier League at this moment in time.
“It wasn’t so hot that anything would have happened,” Laimer told Bild when quizzed on Liverpool’s interest during the summer months.
“A hasty departure is not my thing. If I were to change clubs, I would want to think it through and decide calmly, not overnight, especially since the first half of the season is very short anyway due to the World Cup and you wouldn’t have had time to settle in and find your feet.
“The Premier League is nice, but for me it’s not a must. It’s much more important to me how people talk to me, what feeling do I have about something.”
