Liverpool have the ideal opportunity to begin their next transfer hunt with a player who could start for England against Hungary tonight. The Reds had a relatively quiet summer transfer window, with Ibrahima Konate their sole new signing.

While Konate’s appears to solve their issues in central defence, Jurgen Klopp’s squad does still look thin in several key areas.

One of those positions is in central midfield, with Georgino Wijnaldum having departed at the end of last season.

Wijnaldum’s place in the squad has been taken by Harvey Elliott, but the academy product is also set to provide cover in attacking areas.

The Reds also still possess outcasts such as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and aging stars like James Milner.

That situation should lead to Klopp making signing a new midfielder one of his priorities in upcoming transfer windows.

One of the top targets on Klopp’s shopping list could be Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham, who has been included in the England squad for this week’s internationals.

The Three Lions continue their World Cup qualification campaign starting with a visit to Hungary tonight.

Bellingham is likely to be pushing for a place in the team, having started the new season in very good form.

He has notched three assists so far this term and scored an impressive goal against Hoffenheim last week.

His starring role for the Black and Yellow follows on from a strong debut season in which he quickly became a regular in the side.

The 18-year-old’s performances earned him a call-up to the England squad, with the former Birmingham star going on to make three appearances at Euro 2020.

Having made an impressive start to the campaign, he will be pushing to be involved at the Puskas Arena.

If Bellingham is involved, it will give Liverpool and excellent opportunity to scout a player they have long been fans of.

The Reds were reportedly one of the clubs who Bellingham turned down to sign for Dortmund from Blues in 2020.

Bellingham only signed a new contract at Signal Iduna Park in June, with Dortmund looking to tie down one of their rising stars.

That means he now has four years remaining on his deal, though the Bundesliga side’s business model relies upon sanctioning sales for large fees.

Bellingham will certainly command a huge price having established himself in BVB’s side, with Liverpool hopeful of getting another glimpse of a possible target in action later today.
