Liverpool were unable to secure a deal to sign Fulham’s teenage sensation Fabio Carvalho on Monday. The two clubs had finally agreed an £8million transfer fee after hours of negotiations – but the deadline passed before the final details were concluded.
It will come as a bitter blow for Reds boss Jurgen Klopp that he was unable to land the player.
The German is a big admirer of the 19-year-old and clearly sees him as someone who can have a big future in the Premier League.
But Liverpool have dropped a hint that the deal will now happen in the summer.
Just before the transfer window slammed shut, the Merseysiders agreed to send right-back Neco Williams to the Cottagers on loan.
The 20-year-old has made 33 appearances for the Reds, with three of those coming in this season’s Champions League. He also has 17 caps for Wales.

Williams’ arrival in west London will be a huge boost for Fulham as they look to secure instant promotion back to the Premier League.
The side are currently five points clear at the top of the Championship table and have been in formidable form.
And the deal suggests the two clubs are happy to work together on the transfer front.
Fulham must realise they have little chance of holding onto Carvalho, who is out of contract in the summer.

With Liverpool circling, the attacker is destined to play in the Premier League.
And by taking Williams on loan, the Championship club are accepting that they will have to return the favour at the end of the season.
Liverpool also sold Harry Wilson to Fulham for £12m last summer – so the two clubs are used to dealing with each other on the transfer front.
Despite the fact Carvalho will soon be out of contract, Liverpool could face a tribunal to ultimately decide how much they would have to pay for Carvalho if Fulham don’t agree a fee beforehand.
But it appears they will be able to get their hands on their man for £8m come the end of the campaign.
Following Williams’ arrival in the capital, Fulham owner Tony Khan admitted he was pleased to get the deal over the line.
“Neco is a great young talent and I’m delighted to welcome him to Fulham for the rest of the season,” Khan said.
“It’s important, especially with Denis [Odoi] now leaving the club, to bring in a player of Neco’s quality to ensure the strength of the squad.”
