Villarreal manager Unai Emery has revealed that Arnaut Danjuma gives him the same vibe as Kylian Mbappe and Cristiano Ronaldo. Liverpool have been put on red alert after making the former Bournemouth star a top transfer target this January.
Liverpool have just been given the incentive to go ahead and make a move for Danjuma this January after Emery’s latest comments.
The Netherlands international has fallen onto the Reds’ radar after a blistering start to life in La Liga.
Danjuma signed for Villarreal in the summer and has already scored seven times following his fine campaign with Bournemouth the year before where he netted 17 goals.
Jurgen Klopp was first alerted to the 24-year-old then but his fine introduction for the Yellow Submarine has only underlined his potential importance to Liverpool.
The Premier League giants are set to lose top forwards Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah for the African Cup of Nations at a critical time in the season, as well as Naby Keita.
And Danjuma could be brought in to help alleviate their absence while Emery believes he can be compared to Mbappe or Ronaldo due to his ability in front of goal.
The ex-Arsenal boss said: “We have to specify, Danjuma is a striker, a striker who has the characteristics of Mbappe or Cristiano.
“[He is] a player with power and that although he plays on the wing he is a striker and always goes to goal.”
Emery, who has coached Mbappe and Neymar at Paris Saint-Germain, most notably defeated Manchester United in the 2021 Europa League final with Villarreal but his side are struggling in the league at the moment.
They sit 12th after just three wins in La Liga and an exodus of their best players could follow if they fail to land European football.
That could include Danjuma, who has attracted attention from Newcastle as well as Liverpool.
Others that have been linked with high-profile moves are Pau Torres, Gerard Moreno and Samuel Chukwueze.
As for Liverpool, they have also been looking at RB Salzburg sensation Karim Adeyemi.
The Germany international has scored 14 times in 18 matches, following in the footsteps of Erling Haaland – who made his name at the Austrian club after a similar vein of form.
