Liverpool forced to rip up Salah replacement plan as ‘realistic options’ emerge
Liverpool are reportedly not a ‘realistic option’ for Jamal Musiala, who the Reds have earmarked as a top contender to replace Mohamed Salah. Liverpool managed to keep Salah out of the clutches of Saudi Arabia after a late push in the summer transfer window.
Jurgen Klopp appeared to indicate that Salah had shown no interest in leaving Anfield for the riches of the Middle East. But Liverpool’s resolve will no doubt be tested in January and future transfer windows beyond that.
Salah remains Liverpool’s biggest attacking threat and he’s already notched up eight goals in all competitions this season. Despite turning 32 years old next year, Salah looks unlikely to suffer a dip in form any time soon.
But Liverpool know that there will come a time when they will need to look for Salah’s eventual replacement. They’ve done that already for Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino respectively with Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz joining the new-look attacking unit.
But they’ve yet to dip into the market for a right-sided winger who can take over the mantle from Salah. According to Sky Germany, Liverpool have made Musiala their ‘top contender’ to take Salah’s role when he eventually leaves the club.
The Germany international faces an uncertain future at the Allianz Arena as he’s put contract talks on hold. However, Liverpool look set to be ignored by Musiala as it’s reported he would only consider moves to Manchester City or Real Madrid.

A move to Anfield is said to be ‘absolutely unlikely’, forcing Liverpool’s transfer officials to look elsewhere. Musiala may not be considered a like-for-like replacement for Salah though as the 20-year-old plays more central.
Musiala’s Bayern team-mate Leroy Sane has also been linked with a move to Merseyside in recent weeks. It was reported earlier this month that Liverpool would be willing to break their transfer record to sign the German winger.
He was previously linked with a move to Anfield back in 2018 and even held talks with Jurgen Klopp before he joined Manchester City.
