Liverpool fans slam Gary Neville’s commentary analysis during Man Utd defeat
Liverpool fans laid into Gary Neville after he lamented Manchester United’s absence of Harry Maguire in their 4-2 defeat on Thursday night.
Jurgen Klopp’s first victory at Old Trafford gave the Reds a huge boost in their hopes for the top four, which United have already secured.
The Red Devils were without captain and defensive rock Maguire for the game, with the England ruled out with ankle ligament damage he sustained in last weekend’s win over Aston Villa.
United legend and Sky Sports commentator Neville repeatedly pointed out his absence during the match.
At one point he said: ”I played with players at Manchester United, individual players like Roy Keane in the studio, if they don't play, it unnerves the whole team.
"The lack of Harry Maguire's presence in that defence is clear for all to see. People question 'how good is Harry Maguire', you only see it when he is not playing.
"I think tonight they have a very frantic defence. It's a real problem, it unnerves you when you lose a steadying presence and influence.
"I know Bruno Fernandes has been sensational at Manchester United but I think he (Maguire) is the one player where the drop in depth is so big. He's trying to urge them on from the stands, which is a difficult thing to do."
However, the comments didn’t sit well with fans of Liverpool, who have had to cope without Virgil van Dijk for most of the season, along with Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.
Taking to Twitter, several Reds supporters pointed out to Neville they have been in that boat since October.
One wrote: "Neville's right. United are really struggling because they're missing their main centre back. It's tough to deal with losing one half-decent centre back, you see."

"Neville going on about Utd missing Maguire forgetting that Liverpool have not had either first choice centre back since November," a second added.
While a third put: "Neville simply can’t use the there’s no Harry Maguire excuse when Liverpool have two fellas named Natt and Rhys at centre-back."
"@GNev2 moaning about Maguire missing, oh tiny violins, compared to Liverpool centre back issues," a fourth complained.
