Liverpool fans remind Ben White about Minamino pic after second leg
‘Someone check on Ben White…’: Liverpool fans twist the knife in as they mock the Arsenal star for laughing at Takumi Minamino’s first-leg miss, only for Diogo Jota to run the defender ragged in the Reds’ semi-final victory at the Emirates
- Ben White laughed in the face of Takumi Minamino in first leg against Liverpool
- But Reds put Arsenal to the sword to reach Wembley in the return fixture
- Plenty of Liverpool fans took to social media to stick the knife into White
Plenty of Liverpool fans gleefully stuck the knife into Ben White after the image of him laughing in Takumi Minamino’s face came back to bite him.
The picture went viral after 10-man Arsenal held Jurgen Klopp’s side to a 0-0 draw in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.
It showed Minamino with his head in his hands after missing a chance with White laughing in front of the goal.
Ben White’s face at full time told the story after Arsenal were well beaten by Liverpool
Liverpool fans were quick to remind White about it after the Reds came through to beat Arsenal 2-0 in the return on Thursday night.
One even went as far as to doctor the original picture to show White comically crying.
Plenty posted along the lines of ‘Is Ben White still laughing?’, as they rubbed salt in the wounds after the Gunners’ defeat.
Another shared the original image and added: ‘Don’t mind Ben White at all to be honest but you can’t get torn to absolute shreds in the second leg after reacting like this in the first.’
Diogo Jota gave the defender a tough night and scored both goals for his side
The Anfield Wrap simply posted two images side by side, one of White laughing at Minamino and the second showing the centre-back running helplessly towards his own goal with the ball crossing the line.
The 24-year-old was Arsenal’s big-money signing in the summer for £50m and clearly relished the rearguard action at Anfield in the first leg.
But Thursday was a game to forget for the former Brighton man, who was exposed at times, with Diogo Jota leaving him for dead down the left flank on one occasion.
Jota scored both of Liverpool’s goals in the 2-0 win and they will play Chelsea in the final.
