Liverpool fans react as Harvey Elliott returns to training after horror injury
Liverpool fans are rejoicing at the news that Harvey Elliott has returned to training – almost exactly two months after being on the end of a sickening challenge which left many fearing for his prospects of playing again this season.
The 18-year-old fractured his ankle against Leeds United on 13 September when Pascal Struijk's tackle left the youngster in considerable pain.
The defender was sent off amid the incident which required the Reds star to be stretchered off.
Initially, there were huge worries that Elliott could have been ruled out for over a season with memories still fresh of the Virgil van Dijk scenario that plagued Liverpool last year.
But successful surgery has seen the teenager return to the training pitch well ahead of schedule, though no timeframe has been placed on his return to first-team action.
Pictures emerged today of the former Fulham scholar utilising Liverpool's training facilities and fans are jubilant at the news.
With Liverpool experiencing a midfield crisis with injuries, the fact that Elliott is ramping up his efforts to return has gone down well.
One fan said: "This is fantastic to see, well done to Harvey for his hard work and determination and to the staff at the AXA for all the help they will have undoubtedly given him."
"My boy is running again, love it," another wrote.
This fan tweeted: "The PL ain’t ready!"
While another joked: "This speed of recovery means we can’t rule out the possibility that Harvey Elliott has been sent from the future to kill John Connor."
A fourth quipped: "Literally the best possible picture!!"
And another was full of joy, saying: "This has made my week."
Liverpool are currently fourth in the Premier League, behind West Ham, Manchester City and table toppers Chelsea.
In fact, it was David Moyes' side that beat them prior to the international break to leapfrog above them in the league after inflicting a 3-2 win over them.
It was the first loss of the season for Jurgen Klopp's side in the Premier League – who remain the top scorers in the division.
