Liverpool fans identify Klopp’s title jinx that Wataru Endo could be perfect for

Liverpool fans have discovered some stunning Jurgen Klopp trivia – leading them to say "we’re winning the league”.

The Reds announced the £16million signing of Wataru Endo from Stuttgart on Friday. Endo signed on a four-year deal, keeping the Japan international at Anfield until 2027.

Many fans of the club were left unimpressed on social media at signing a 30-year-old, especially having lost out on their two primary central-midfield targets – Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia – to rivals Chelsea.

But eagle-eyed supporters have now discovered that manager Jurgen Klopp has never won a league title without a Japanese player in his squad, giving the Anfield faithful something to cheer about despite the initially mellow response.

One fan tweeted: “My word, that's wild. Love it for us,” while another wrote: “We’re winning the league.”

A third wrote “And we used to call him a madman. He knows what he’s doing,” and a fourth added: “All I needed to hear.”

Do you think Liverpool will surprise everyone this season? Let us know in the comments section.

Klopp won Liverpool’s first ever Premier League trophy in 2019/20 with Japanese forward Takumi Minamino in the squad. The winger, who has now moved on to Monaco, signed in January that season and made 10 appearances as the Reds claimed their long-awaited title.

Before that, midfield maestro Shinji Kagawa was crucial to Klopp’s success at Dortmund, helping the German claim back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 2010/11 and 2011/12. Kagawa featured 49 times in the league across the two seasons.

Known for his combative style, Endo could be similarly effective for Klopp at Liverpool. The German’s intense approach to pressing makes the 50-times capped international a valuable starter for the upcoming season, after a dismal campaign where the Reds midfield was frequently overrun.

Speaking to the club's official website upon his announcement, Endo said: "I'm very happy right now and I'm so excited to join a big club in Liverpool.

"It feels amazing and this is my dream. It's always [been] a dream to play [in the] Premier League and with one of the biggest clubs in the world. It's a dream come true for me."
