Liverpool fans fear they’re ‘finished’ if star gets injured after friendly clash

Liverpool fans are fearing the worst if they’re ever without Alisson this season after the Reds shipped four goals after the Brazilian stopper was substituted.

Jurgen Klopp’s side threw away a 3-1 lead to fall 4-3 behind against German second division side Greuther Furth before Mo Salah eventually levelled the game in the 89th minute in a goal-laden second half.

Luis Diaz scored the only goal of the first half to put the Reds in front as he coolly slotted into the far corner from inside the box.

But Liverpool’s collapse coincided with Alisson being substituted off at half-time to give valuable pre-season minutes to backup stopper Adrian and 20-year-old Marcelo Pitaluga.

Furth’s first goal was scored by ex-Bayern Munich man Julian Green who seized upon lacklustre play between Adrian and 18-year-old James McConnell to rob the teenager in the six-yard box and score in an empty net after the Reds failed to play out.

The lack of depth at the back is a real concern heading into the new season for Liverpool with Trent Alexander-Arnold operating in midfield again and Joel Matip failing to block a cross that led to Furth’s third goal.

And Liverpool fans were left fretting about life without Alisson between the sticks, with one fan saying on Twitter: “We’re actually finished if Alisson gets injured.”

Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson were all also substituted at half-time, leaving more questions about the depth in the backline.

A second posted a picture of Alexander-Arnold looking worried and captioned it: “That second team defence…” with a third demanding: “Sell Adrian and Gomez right now.”

Whilst a fourth commented: “Gomez and Matip are awful. Can't choose. Need to sell both of them. If Van Dijk or Konate gets injured our season is over. We have Europa long travels Thursdays. Konate and Van Dijk can't play all. Forget top 4.”

Liverpool play Leicester City on Sunday before ending their pre-season against Bayern Munich and Darmstadt.
