Liverpool equaliser is labelled as ‘one of the freakiest own goals’ ever
Matt Le Tissier has labelled Liverpool's equaliser against Leicester City 'one of the freakiest own goals ever.'
The Foxes took an early lead through Dewsbury-Hall after some schoolboy defending from the Reds. But Jurgen Klopp's side equalised through a botched clearance attempt by Wout Faes. Trent-Alexander Arnold delivered a powerful low ball into Leicester's penalty area in the 37th minute, and Faes completely fluffed his effort to clear the ball which ended up in his own net.
The centre-back looked startled when he got up from his clanger that put the Reds back in the game. And Le Tissier had the perfect summary of what had just taken place, he wrote on Twitter: "One of the freakiest own goals you’ll ever see, 1-1," alongside a wide-eyed emoji.

Le Tissier's shock was shared by one fan who responded: "Unreal Matt…". A second user added: "Unbelievable. The luck!!. But a third fan was more sympathetic towards Faes and mused: "So unlucky could have gone anywhere."
And another supporter used the opportunity to goad the Southampton legend for his controversial views on the Covid vaccine, and quipped: "Must be that covid jab." Meanwhile back on the pitch, before the Foxes could recover from Faes' error, he was back at it again when he scored another own goal before half-time, giving Liverpool a 2-1 lead.

This time, Liverpool star Darwin Nunez raced clear on goal, and when his effort clipped the post, Faes was on hand to thump the ball into the back of his own net as he steamed back at full speed, appearing to clash with Nunez's rebounding attempt. With Faes on course to bag a hat-trick of own goals, fans were eager to know if he'll be handed the match ball if he scored another blooper.
The Belgium ace was also the recipient of an unwanted accolade in the game. His own goal brace saw him become the fourth player with two own goals in a single Premier League game.
