Liverpool could go against Klopp’s wishes over Thiago as German’s stance clear

Liverpool may go against Jurgen Klopp’s wishes in deciding on Thiago Alcantara’s future as the Spanish midfielder’s injury woes continue, according to reports. Thiago’s Anfield career is stumbling to an underwhelming end, but Klopp’s desire to retain his services contributed to a summer stay amid interest from elsewhere.
The 32-year-old arrived at Liverpool from Bayern Munich to much fanfare in 2020 and has made 97 appearances across his three-year stay.
But Thiago started just 14 Premier League games last season and has yet to feature this term as injury issues refuse to fade.
According to 90min, Liverpool fielded interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Turkey in the summer.
Thiago’s desire to fight for his future at Anfield led to a stay, but his absence in the opening two months has sparked further debate.
His contract is due to expire next summer, and Klopp is reportedly keen for Liverpool to hand Thiago an extension despite his recent lack of involvement.
However, the report claims that other figures at the club aren’t as convinced about the experienced maestro and whether he deserves a new deal.

Thiago is Liverpool’s third-highest earner, pocketing £200,000 a week, behind Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
But some Liverpool chiefs are reportedly disappointed with what he has returned during his period at the club.
90min add that Thiago and his camp will start discussions with Liverpool before the January transfer window to weigh up his options.
And there is said to be a possibility he could depart in the winter if interest from the Middle East and Europe becomes concrete.
Such an outcome would go against Klopp’s wishes despite adding Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis MacAllister and Wataru Endo to his squad during the summer transfer window.

“You don’t have five million players like this [Thiago] on the planet,” Klopp explained earlier this summer.
“Only a few see things earlier than anyone else and have the technical ability to not only see it but get the ball there as well.
“He is a world-class player. He can be pretty dangerous with and without the ball, so, from our point of view, there is really nothing to moan about.
“Football is outstanding, but his counter-pressing was mad. That makes the full package. I couldn’t respect it more.”
If the interest is there, though, Liverpool may opt to cash in on Thiago while they still can and avoid uncomfortable conversations about his contract later in the season.
