Liverpool can use strong relationship to seal perfect midfield signing

Inside Liverpool's pre-season plans

Liverpool can make the most of their relationship with Brighton to secure a deal for transfer target Moises Caicedo. The Premier League clubs have an excellent relationship having seen several players make the move from the South Coast to Merseyside, and vice-versa.

The Reds are freshly out of negotiations with Brighton over the £35million arrival of playmaker Alexis Mac Allister. Those talks were supposedly seamless, with the Argentine joining well ahead of the start of pre-season.

According to wide-ranging reports, Liverpool are now interested in battling with Chelsea for Mac Allister’s former Brighton team-mate Caicedo. It is claimed that Chelsea have the upper hand over a possible deal, but the Reds need midfield reinforcements as Jordan Henderson and Fabinho are now likely to leave.

If the pair do depart, Liverpool will need yet another midfielder – when they were already short in that position. In Caicedo, they will have a star ready to slot straight into Klopp’s side alongside Mac Allister.

The 23/24 home shirt for Liverpool pays homage to the past of the club, as well as collaborator Nike, with a strong 1970s influence. The iconic red, capped with bold white cuffs and collar really does invoke that classic Liverpool FC style while adding a cool retro touch

Using their excellent relationship with Brighton might be advantageous. The Seagulls actively engaged in discussions and were happy to accept a bargain £35m fee for Mac Allister. James Milner and Adam Lallana have made the reverse move in recent years.

The club can now reenter talks over Caicedo, with Klopp now searching for another new midfielder. Chelsea, meanwhile, might share a more difficult relationship with Brighton due to them taking their former head coach Graham Potter, the defender Marc Cucurella and a whole host of their backroom staff.

The Blues are also refusing to sell Levi Colwill to the South Coast side. The England U21 defender is also believed to be a target for Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Liverpool boss Klopp will expect to enter the 2023-24 Premier League season with a vastly different squad to the one that suffered a dismal time last term. With so many signings still to make, the German is expecting the club’s young players to prove a point in pre-season to fill the void.

“There are now not too many new players but [we have] a lot of young players, of course, in and young players for who the door is open, who can play a different role next season,” Klopp told the club’s website.

“They are all a year older, looking really good – Conor Bradley looking really good, Ben Doak really good, Bobby Clark grew somehow, which is normal. They all can play a slightly different role if they want and yeah, how I said, there is an open door for that.”
