As he seeks to return Liverpool to the status of Premier League title contenders, Jurgen Klopp is eyeing a move for Jarrod Bowen. And signing the West Ham star could also hand the Reds a boost with Sadio Mane.

The Senegalese international endured arguably his worst season yet at Anfield, scoring just 11 goals and notching only eight assists in the top-flight.

That is far below what is expected of the attacker, who has previously starred under Klopp’s high-octane style.

Mane frequently found himself under fire for his performances last term, particularly in his long spells of goal droughts.

Michael Owen even infamously stated he believed Mane was deliberately avoiding setting up Mohamed Salah for goals as the Egyptian chased the golden boot award.

But despite Mane’s poor form, Klopp was left with little choice other than to play him, with only injuries and a bout of Covid-19 keeping him out of the starting line-up.

The German could only call on Diogo Jota or Xherdan Shaqiri to truly provide competition on the wing.

But Jota had a long spell on the sidelines despite enjoying an impressive debut season following his move from Wolves.

Shaqiri meanwhile also suffered a challenging season, making only 14 league appearances, in which he failed to score a goal and notched just two assists.

The Swiss international enjoyed a good Euro 2020 tournament, but that looks unlikely to save his Liverpool career.

Instead, Klopp is now eyeing a move for Bowen, who has starred for the Hammers since joining from Hull City in January 2020.

He played a key role last season, scoring eight goals and notching five assists as David Moyes’ side secured a surprising sixth-placed finish in the top-flight.

The 24-year-old mainly played on the right wing, but also showcased his versatility when he was selected as the main striker when Michael Antonio was injured.

Those performances and that flexibility has marked him out as a potential target for the Reds as they boost their attacking options.

Signing Bowen will also provide Mane with the competition he so desperately needs to get his form back on track.

Having a high-calibre player such as Bowen on the bench will undoubtedly force Mane to step up his efforts to silence his critics.

And if Mane does struggle for goals and assists, Klopp will have a proven Premier League performer to call upon in reserve.

Signing Bowen will help the Reds to recover from their worst season in front of goal since Klopp’s first season in charge, as well as pushing any underperforming stars to improve.
