Liverpool have been urged to steal a march on their rivals by signing Manchester United’s ‘number one target’, while Jurgen Klopp eyes a move for £68m Arsenal target and a Reds favourite offers his view on those Kylian Mbappe rumours. Express Sport have the latest transfer news from Anfield.
Liverpool can exact Ronaldo revenge
Liverpool could finally land revenge on Manchester United after they pinched Cristiano Ronaldo under their noses in 2003.
While the forward was still a youngster at Sporting, he was garnering huge interest from across Europe.
Some of that came from Anfield, with the late Gerard Houllier admitting they were ultimately priced out of a move.
He said: “I have had a lot of contact with Cristiano but Manchester United played a friendly against Lisbon.
“His price went from £4 million to £13m and we could not match it.”

And almost 20 years after that, Liverpool could return the favour by landing Jadon Sancho, after United failed to cough up the money needed for the Borussia Dortmund star.
The Red Devils singled him out as their top target last summer, only to fail to pay the £108million needed to sign him.
And now, ex-Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer has told Klopp he would be the perfect addition.
He told Goal: “I’d sign Jadon Sancho. I’d sign him because he’s got that versatility.
“He’s also young and he fits into the mould of this Liverpool team. That’s the player I’d go out and buy.”

£68m Arsenal transfer battle
Klopp is reportedly eyeing a move for Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez – but will face competition from Arsenal.
Rodriguez has a £68m release clause in his contract, although there are suggestions they could cash in for less due to their financial issues.
Predominantly a defensive midfielder, the Argentine international has moved ahead of William Carvalho in the Betis pecking order.
And Estadio Deportivo report that Liverpool are monitoring his situation, although it is likely Liverpool will need to sell before their buy due to the current financial climate.
Enrique on Mbappe
Reds favourite Jose Enrique has urged his former club to try and sign Kylian Mbappe, labelling him a ‘realistic target’.
The Paris Saint-Germain superstar is yet to commit to his future at the Ligue 1 champions, with his contract set to expire next summer.
Liverpool are believed to have an interest, while reports from the Transfer Window Podcast, suggest the player is also open to a move.
And speaking on social media, Enrique has said the signing of the World Cup winner would be ‘incredible’ and one they should prioritise over Erling Haaland.
He posted: “If you have to choose between him and haaland for our team which one you will choose?
“For me a love the option of mbappe because he can play in any of our front 3 positions but I see it a lot more difficult to be real but haaland option and for me haaland as a number 9 it will be incredible is a realistic one I believe and I really believe we should go all in for him this summer.”
