Liverpool boss Klopp offers worrying update on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has provided a worrying update on Trent Alexander-Arnold's groin injury which has ruled him out of tonight's Champions League clash with Porto.
Alexander-Arnold picked up the injury in training after Saturday's draw with Brentford and has not travelled to Portugal for the match.
Klopp has revealed that he fears the injury is more serious than first thought and that the England international may now be a doubt for this weekend's crunch match with Manchester City.
The German coach also commented on the death of Liverpool legend Roger Hunt, his team selection and Jordan Henderson's 400th appearance for the club.
Discussing Alexander-Arnold's injury, Klopp said: “Unfortunately shortly after training he went in early and we did a further assessment.
"It didn't look serious and in the end it was serious. He is out for today for sure and it does not look great for the Manchester City game as well.
"He thought it was tight but it is a little bit more than that."
Alexander-Arnold joins teenager Harvey Elliott on the Reds' treatment table and Klopp also commented on his team selection after opting not to rotate massively from the weekend.
How big an impact will Trent Alexander-Arnold's absence affect Liverpool? Let us know in the comments section below.
"It’s always a question of fresh legs or rhythm we decided this time for rhythm. Normally you have to rotate but in this situation we don’t have to the boys can go again," stated the Liverpool boss.
The lack of rotation means that Henderson keeps his place to bring up his 400th appearance for the club and Klopp hopes it is far from his captain's last.
"It’s a big number and a lot more to come. If he stays fit he will easily make 500," admitted Klopp.
The Reds boss also took time to reflect on the death of World Cup winner and former Liverpool striker Hunt prior to the match, after he passed away aged 83 on Monday.
"It’s difficult obviously (learning of Roger Hunt's death). We don’t know these legends personally but the first thing you learn when you come to Liverpool is about these guys.
"He would have been a player that would have played definitely in my team. It is really sad.
"Condolences go to his family from the Liverpool family. It is a really sad day."
Hunt made over 400 appearances for the club between 1958 and 1969 and was a member of England's 1966 World Cup winning side.
