Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has admitted there is no “quick fix” to their issues after a disappointing start to the season and has challenged his side to turn their season around against Napoli with victory on Tuesday. The German tactician said he had experienced some “sleepless nights” over their poor run of form which included a shock 2-1 home defeat to Leeds United on Saturday.
The Reds face Napoli on Tuesday in the Champions League have already sealed their place in the last-16 knockout round, with Klopp’s men hoping to wrap up qualification as group winners. However, his side may go into the tie as slight underdogs given the Serie A outfit’s impressive run of form, while his side are out-of-sorts.
Liverpool are currently ninth in the Premier League after winning only four of their opening 12 matches and face a battle to finish in the top four. And Klopp conceded that there is no fast solution to their issues, even revealing that he had suffered from sleepless nights following their defeat to Leeds.
“I’m 55 so I have a couple of trips to the toilet during the night, that’s usually why I wake up,” he joked during his pre-match news conference. “But yeah, the goal (against Leeds) was on my mind.”
It seems likely that Liverpool will explore the possibility of adding to their squad in January in a bid to avoid missing out on a top-four finish, with long-term targets such as Jude Bellingham and Moises Caicedo not expected to leave until next summer.
RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer and Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio have been linked with cut-price moves to join the Reds due to their expiring contracts, although signing players in the winter transfer window is not a typical move from Klopp.
Earlier on, Klopp was asked whether he felt that his players could still deliver the performances he expected from his previous six seasons at Anfield. As ever, the charismatic boss backed his players to “fight” and prove their critics wrong, but the 55-year-old also admitted there was no “quick fix” to their issues – hinting that transfers may not be the answer.

“We expect more, I expect more from the boys, we just have to get there with steps,” he added. “That’s the challenge in the moment. We need to avoid the mistakes and keep the good stuff in. It was never a quick fix. We won’t stop fighting.”
“My job isn’t just to be here when the sun is shining, but when we have to go through a really rough period. I will do that with all I have and if possible even more than 100%.
“I’m ready to play against Napoli, but I didn’t play against Leeds physically. We will see who can.”
Liverpool must beat Napoli by at least four goals to usurp their opponents as group winners, as Luciano Spaletti’s side boast a superior head-to-head and goal difference record over the Reds following their 4-1 win in Naples.
