Liverpool boss Klopp calls reporters' questions 'a WASTE OF TIME'

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp calls reporters’ questions ‘a WASTE OF TIME’ as he grows frustrated with lack of ‘new answers to give’ while being quizzed about a defining week of their season

  • Jurgen Klopp hit back at a reporter for failing to ask ‘new questions’ to the boss
  • Klopp was questioned about his line-up choices against Man City and Chelsea
  • The German was speaking ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Arsenal on Sunday

Jurgen Klopp accused a reporter of wasting his time with unoriginal questions during Liverpool’s pre-match press conference on Friday morning.

The Liverpool boss has been preparing his side to face Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, in a bid to get them back to winning ways.

The Reds have failed to win in any of their last five, with their last two results being a 4-1 defeat to Man City and a 0-0 draw to manager-less Chelsea on Tuesday night.

Klopp made wholesale changes to the Liverpool line-up for their match against Chelsea, which then raised questions from reporters at the press conference.

When asked whether he made changes due to the Man City defeat or simply to manage player workload, Klopp fired back: ‘We had a game against City, which is an influence physically and performance-wise. It is both.

The Liverpool boss was less than impressed about questions over his recent team selection

‘How can you expect I give you an answer and say “two were because of that and four were because of that”. That is a real waste of time.’

Klopp was also asked about his recent comments that suggested this week would ‘define’ Liverpool’s season and whether he still believed that.

He said: ‘If we win this game, then we will have taken four points out of these games. This would be completely normal for us in the past.

‘Most of the time we drew there [Stamford Bridge]. Last season, I sat at home with COVID. We started really well but it was a draw in the end. And losing to Man City was always possible.

‘I understand from your point of view it’s super difficult to find new questions every week but believe me it’s even more difficult to find new answers.’

Since beating Manchester United 7-0 at the start of March, Klopp’s side have failed to win a game and, instead, have lost to Bournemouth, Real Madrid and City.

However, Klopp will remain hopeful of securing a result against league leaders Arsenal, given the multiple Liverpool players returning from injury.

On Thursday, Thiago Alcantara was spotted back in full training before Klopp later confirmed the midfielder’s availability in his press conference.

‘Virgil [van Dijk] is back in training. Luis [Diaz] and Thiago training completely normal. The plan for Luis is that he will be 100 per cent available for Leeds.’

Alongside Thiago, winger Luis Diaz also made his return to full training on Thursday.

The Colombian, who signed for Liverpool in January 2022, has been out since October due to a persistent knee injury.

Diaz was facing Saturday’s upcoming opponents when he left the pitch during the 3-2 defeat for Liverpool at the Emirates six months ago.
