Liverpool need to sign a world-class striker to play ahead of Roberto Firmino in order to mount a renewed Premier League title challenge next season, according to former Tottenham and Fulham midfielder Jamie O’Hara. Jurgen Klopp’s side are in the midst of a crisis with the club’s extensive injury problems haunting their campaign amid a run of six consecutive Anfield defeats.
Klopp admitted after Sunday’s latest disappointment at the hands of Fulham that he felt the result represented an all-time low point in his managerial career, with the Reds seemingly in freefall after such an impressively strong season last time around.
Although the Merseyside club’s defensive absences have contributed significantly to their poor form, they have also struggled in front of goal.
Liverpool have managed to score just twice in their last four Premier League outings, with both goals coming against lowly Sheffield United in a 2-0 victory at Bramall Lane.
First-choice striker Roberto Firmino has failed to provide the goals for the Reds as of late, leaving much of the attacking burden with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
The Brazil international has found the net on just six occasions all season, a lacklustre return for a top-class centre forward.

Liverpool have been linked with a sensational move for Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe in recent months, with the World Cup winner’s future in the French capital uncertain.
It has been suggested that PSG could be forced to sell in the summer to avoid losing their star man for nothing at the end of the following season, if he decides against extending his stay at the club.
O’Hara, who made 91 top-flight appearances over the course of his professional career, has suggested that Mbappe could be the answer to Klopp’s problems on Merseyside.
He told talkSPORT that a world-class striker could be just what Liverpool need in order to reclaim their reputation as the best side in the country, stressing that the Reds should look to improve their attacking threat as a priority.
“I actually think they need a number nine, they need a top world-class centre-forward,” he said. “I don’t think they should get rid of Firmino, but I think he should be a bit part player to a player who is going to take them to the next level again.
“Liverpool have dropped off massively, and you can’t rely on Salah and Mane every season. You need to be able to rotate, you need other players who can come in, and for me that’s a massive area they need to improve.
“You need a number nine who scores you 25 goals a season if you want to win the title.”
Mbappe comfortably fits the bill of a world-class marksman, with the 22-year-old boasting a glittering CV that most professionals can only dream of.
He has already won four Ligue 1 titles, two domestic cups and the 2018 World Cup, scoring the last goal of the tournament against Croatia in the final.
If Mbappe refuses a new deal at PSG, Liverpool could do far worse than to secure his services at the end of the season.
Klopp previously claimed that the Reds would have little chance of signing the forward due to the huge financial commitment likely to be involved.
However, in the event that his current employers try to flog him for a cut-price fee rather than risk losing him on a free transfer, the situation could well be subject to change.
“Buying this calibre of player is difficult,” he told reporters in November 2019. “I don’t see any club at the moment who can buy Kylian Mbappe from PSG.
“I don’t see any club, that is how it is. And we are involved in the clubs that cannot do it. It is as easy as that.
“OK, from a sporting point of view, there are not a lot of reasons to not sign him. What a player he is.
“But it is about the money of course. No chance. Absolutely no chance. Sorry for killing that story.”
