Liverpool could be one step ahead in the incoming race to sign one of the World Cup’s most impressive stars as early as January. Jurgen Klopp had been working behind the scenes to bolster his midfield before the winter tournament, and his efforts could bear fruit ahead of an imminent transfer rush.
Sofyan Amrabat has enjoyed a sensational campaign in Qatar, footing Morocco’s midfield en route to the World Cup semi-finals, helping his nation concede just one goal. And he is reportedly in Klopp’s cross-hairs for a well-deserved move to Anfield in 2023.
Speaking to Empire of the Kop, Foot Mercato journalist Anas Bakhkhar claimed Klopp had already met with Amrabat’s agent over a potential switch to Anfield before the World Cup. He added that the Moroccan’s performances in Qatar would lead to more meetings between Liverpool, Fiorentina and Amrabat.
He said: “Liverpool’s coach Jurgen Klopp has met the agent of Sofyan Amrabat. We can also mention that his brother, Nordin Amrabat, who has been working on his brother’s career for a long time now, was also there, and they both met with the coach. It was a very good meeting.

“It was positive, and they will be meeting a few days after the end of the World Cup to see if the interest is the same for Jurgen Klopp. After his performances in Qatar, the interest shouldn’t change, and there will be other meetings to see the demands of Fiorentina, also the demands of his agent – to see if that transfer will go ahead or not.”
Liverpool are thought to have identified Borussia Dortmund and England midfielder Jude Bellingham as a priority target next summer. But with multiple midfield departures on the horizon, Klopp is seemingly keen to bolster his ranks with at least two new faces.

James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are expected to leave the Reds on free transfers at the end of the season. So the German coach targeting Amrabat on top of Bellingham comes as little surprise, with his eye-catching World Cup exploits bound to intensify interest.
Amrabat offers something different to Bellingham and would be able to alleviate Fabinho’s workload as the sole holding midfielder in Klopp’s midfield three. The latter would feature as one of the eights in what could be a new-look core in the 2023/24 campaign.
