Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp responds to Ben Davies interest

Liverpool are considering a deadline day move for Preston North End defender Ben Davies.

Kop chief Jurgen Klopp is desperate to bolster his backline after a spate of injuries.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are both long-term absentees while Joel Matip and Fabinho are also sidelined.

Klopp has been forced to play skipper Jordan Henderson as a makeshift centre-back and rely on youngster Nat Phillips.

However, the Reds are pondering a £2million move for Preston's Davies, who is also wanted by Celtic.

When asked about Liverpool's interest following the win over West Ham, Klopp said: "Tottenham, Ben Davies as well? [smiles] No, nothing to say.

"By the way Nat Phillips played a decent game and Milly told Hendo he better be careful playing like this because you'll play there for the rest of your career!"

The 25-year-old came through the ranks at Deepdale and has gone on to make more than 200 appearances for the club.

Liverpool are willing to send youngster Sepp van der Berg in the other direction in a bid to get the deal over the line.

Barrow-born Davies has been a regular for Preston this season, featuring in 19 of their 27 games.
