Reports in Spain claim Liverpool are keeping watch on Real Betis technician Guido Rodriguez as the Reds weigh up the signing of another central midfielder in the January transfer window. The 2020 Premier League champions have endured their worst start to a campaign in over 10 years, sparking concern that something needs to change before they fall even further behind the leading pack.

Liverpool are seemingly light on the ground in midfield due to a whole host of injury problems.

New signing Arthur Melo, who is yet to start a match, has picked up a muscle injury that has ruled him out for up to four months.

He now joins Naby Keita, Luis Diaz, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joel Matip on the sidelines to add insult to injury for Jurgen Klopp.

According to Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo, Liverpool are now monitoring the development of Betis midfielder Rodriguez ahead of the winter window.

It’s understood the Argentine is now attracting the interest of the Reds as he continues to sparkle in La Liga.

The 28-year-old has won 25 caps for his country and has been a regular at international level ever since.

Rodriguez is deemed to be ‘the main value’ in Betis’ squad, which is why they are keen to entertain a sale to free up some finances.

There was reportedly interest in the summer but no solid offer arrived on the table in Seville as per the report.

The article also adds that Betis aren’t convinced Liverpool are ready to move ahead with a transfer, meaning other targets could yet be prioritised.

Despite an increasing list of injuries, Klopp is hoping to welcome back Curtis Jones in due course

The young attacking midfielder has not featured at all in the Premier League after picking up a problem after the Community Shield victory over Manchester City.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has also resumed full training following a hefty lay-off with a knee injury.

Naby Keita and Andy Robertson remain out injury for the Reds, two players Klopp will be keen to count on as soon as possible.

Liverpool return to action on Wednesday night when they travel north of the border to face Rangers.

The Reds are currently in control of their own destiny having won two of their three matches in Group A.

Klopp’s side were humiliated in a 4-1 defeat to Napoli on matchday one but since then Liverpool have recovered to record victories over Ajax (2-1) and Rangers (2-0).
