Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp couldn’t help but aim a dig at Manchester United as he delivered his verdict on this season’s electric Premier League title race. The Reds manager is slowly welcoming his players back from the international break nearly two weeks after his side’s hectic 2-2 draw with bitter rivals Manchester City at Anfield.
The result leaves Liverpool in second, just one point adrift of league leaders Chelsea.
Thomas Tuchel’s side were recently beaten 1-0 by City at Stamford Bridge but they are still two points clear of the champions, Manchester United and Everton.
The race at the top is really starting to catch fire and there is a feeling that this could be one of the most exciting Premier League seasons since its inception.
Klopp was asked for his take on the current state of affairs and he is under no illusions that it could go to the wire this season.

He told Sky Germany: “It is very likely that it will be very tight – you really have to say that.
“City have certainly not got any worse than last year, the kind of football they play is brutal. We’re in a good mood. Chelsea have a top team and a huge squad.”
When delivering his verdict on United, Klopp appeared to make a dig about their excessive spending in recent times.
“United are United, they won’t stop investing until it works out at some point,” he added. “The squad they now have together is also strong.”

There has been plenty of tension in recent times between Klopp and Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
While he did not mention Klopp by name, the Norwegian recently launched an attack on the German, who made a complaint last season about the number of penalties that had been won by United.
Solskjaer was adamant Klopp’s comments have had an impact on referees.
“We just have to hope we get what we deserve. We should have had three pens in the last two games,” Solskjaer said.

“There was a certain manager last year who was starting to worry about us getting penalties and after that it seems like the decisions are more difficult to give [to us].
“Surely I’ve seen a big, big difference since then on. But we just have to leave it up to the refs and hope that they will make the right calls very soon.”
Liverpool travel to United next Sunday in a match that is likely to have a big say on the title race, even this early in the season.
The Reds travel to Watford in the early kick-off on Saturday while United take on Leicester at the King Power Stadium as both sides look to hit the ground running after the international break.
