Jurgen Klopp remains relaxed over Mohamed Salah’s contract situation, with his current deal set to expire in eighteen months’ time. However, the German boss has conceded talks may drag on for his star man.

Salah, 29, has 19 goals and nine assists in all competitions for the Reds this season, registering a goal contribution every 62 minutes.

With Liverpool currently just one point behind Manchester City in the title race and having won all five of their Champions League group stage fixtures, Salah has had a huge say in proceedings with his excellence.

Clubs have been linked with the Egyptian legend for years on end after his continued domination at the Anfield club, although nothing has come to fruition.

Klopp has made it clear he wants the player to stay as has Salah, who admitted over the weekend he’s already made the decision to remain at Anfield if the club can meet his demands.

The Liverpool boss insisted on Monday that he is not concerned about talks with Salah dragging on as he explained the complexity of reaching an agreement with his star man.

“You know what he is about,” Klopp said.

“We’re talking and extending a contract with a player, like if not something you where you meet for a cuppa and sort it. That’s normal.

“I can only say a few things but I’m not sure if it’s translated [wrongly] and it’s an issue.

Salah has won the Premier League and a Champions League in his time on Merseyside, with the club unlucky not to complete an imperious double in 2018/19 after finishing a point behind City.

The same situation is unfolding this season in what is one of the most intriguing title races of all-time alongside Chelsea’s star-studded squad.

And Liverpool will be relying on Salah’s goals if they are to reclaim the title that City stole from their grasp last season.

The Reds, who travel to AC Milan on Tuesday evening as they look to complete a whitewash of their Champions League group, however face the prospect of losing Salah along with Sadio Mane for key matches in the New Year due to their participation in the AFCON.

Liverpool are in talks to delay the two stars’ departure and Klopp admitted he is hopeful they will reach an agreement with Egypt and Senegal’s Football Associations.

Discussing talks over the two players last week, he said: “It’s not decided yet. I am an optimistic person, so I hope so, but it’s not written in stone and not completely in our hands.”
