  • Liverpool are believed to be rapidly closing in on their first summer signing
  • The club are set to complete a £60million move for Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister
  • Manchester United were interested but were forced to move on to other targets

Liverpool are closing in on their first summer signing with the club hopeful of sealing a deal for Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister this week, Mail Sport understands.

Contact between both parties is thought to have taken place and with the midfielder keen to work with Jurgen Klopp, the process is expected to be a smooth one.

The exact value of the move is not currently known despite the release clause in his contract, although the final fee could reach as much as £60million.

World Cup winner Mac Allister signed fresh terms at the Amex Stadium last October, extending a deal that would otherwise have run down at the end of this season.

Manchester United were thought to have been keen on signing the playmaker but were forced to move on after Mac Allister expressed a desire to move to Anfield.

The 24-year-old’s representatives are in England with discussions ongoing.

It is expected that Liverpool will splash more cash this summer even after landing the 24-year-old, with Khephren Thuram, Manu Kone and Romeo Lavia targets.

According to L’Equipe, the club have begun negotiations with Ligue 1 side Nice over a potential deal for Thuram, with funds having been freed up by outgoings.

Indeed, Klopp is keen to strengthen his midfield after James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all left the club as free agents.

Jude Bellingham, however, is Real Madrid bound.

But regardless, Liverpool are exploring a number of options for the position and have discussed the possibility of signing Kone from Borussia Monchengladbach.

The 22-year-old moved to the Bundesliga in January 2021 and has since gone on to make 60 appearances for the club, scoring four goals.
