Liverpool 3-1 Darmstadt: Mo Salah, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz on target
Liverpool 3-1 Darmstadt: Full-strength Reds finish pre-season with a comfortable win at Preston’s Deepdale as Luis Diaz restores two-goal cushion after early double from Mo Salah and Diogo Jota
- Salah and Jota scored in the opening 10 minutes as Liverpool made a fast start
- Mathias Honsak halved the deficit as the Reds were caught out at the back
- Diaz flicked in a third with a smart finish from a Dominik Szoboszlai corner
Liverpool finished their pre-season campaign with a win over Bundesliga side Darmstadt, but it didn’t come without a shock or two.
The Red flew out of the blocks and raced into a 2-0 lead after 10 minutes. First Mohamed Salah poked in from Dominik Szoboszlai’s corner, before the Egyptian fed Diogo Jota after winning the ball high up the pitch.
But Jurgen Klopp’s side were caught out on the break not long after. A ball over the top of Liverpool’s high line was met by Mathias Honsak, and he kept his cool to slot past Alisson to halve the deficit.
Luis Diaz restored Liverpool’s two-goal lead just before the hour mark, flicking in Szoboszlai’s corner with what was a fine finish, reinstating Liverpool’s ability and options in attack.
Liverpool will now prepare to take on Chelsea in their Premier League opener on Sunday.
