Lionel Messi will wear the number 30 shirt, for the first time in his proffesional career, at PSG next season.

Messi was unveiled as a PSG player on Tuesday evening, however, he won't be donning his iconic 10 or 19.

Instead, Messi has been given the number 30 shirt, inspired by his early days at Barcelona.

The 34-year-old wore the number when he broke into the first team set up at the Catalan club, but he was quick to change to 19 after his debut.

Messi's career looks to have come full circle after he declined Neymar's kind offer to step aside at 10, and he has instead accepted the number 30.

Messi joined PSG on Tuesday evening after his contract at Barcelona expired.

He said: "I am excited to begin a new chapter of my career at Paris Saint-Germain.

"Everything about the club matches my football ambitions. I know how talented the squad and the coaching staff are here.

"I am determined to help build something special for the club and the fans, and I am looking forward to stepping out onto the pitch at the Parc des Princes."

While PSG's Chairman and CEO, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, added: "I am delighted that Lionel Messi has chosen to join Paris Saint-Germain and we are proud to welcome him and his family to Paris.

He has made no secret of his desire to continue competing at the very highest level and winning trophies, and naturally our ambition as a club is to do the same.

"The addition of Leo to our world class squad continues a very strategic and successful transfer window for the club.

"Led by our outstanding coach and his staff, I look forward to the team making history together for our fans all around the world."

And fans have reacted to his new number: "Messi with the number #30 is unique. Adds more personality to this new journey he has taken, he will end up making the 30 an iconic number in football."

However, not all agreed: "this is soooo weird to seeee," one tweeted in response to a photo of his new shirt.

Another simply added: "Why," with a laughing emoji.

"Someone needs to give up their squad number because we can’t be having Messi in #30," a fourth tweeted.
