Lionel Messi can soon anger Cristiano Ronaldo by taking Champions League record
Cristiano Ronaldo prides himself on goalscoring. His reputation as arguably football’s greatest ever goal-scorer is justified. His output phenomenal.
Ronaldo chases records, and set his sights on becoming the Champions League’s all-time record scorer, an achievement he soon reached. With an incredible 140 goals in Europe’s elite competition, in just 183 appearances no less, Ronaldo is out in front by 15 goals.
However, his prized record could be stolen from him by his greatest footballing rival, Lionel Messi. Just 15 goals behind, having found the net 125 times in just 156 Champions league appearances, Messi may well have his sights set on claiming top spot, and he could do it this season.

Ronaldo’s absence from the competition this year could have a major impact on him holding onto his record. Manchester United’s failure to qualify, instead playing in the Europa League this season, means that the Portuguese forward cannot add to his tally. Unless he seals a switch away from Old Trafford of course…
It's a static target for Messi to aim for, who will be playing in the competition for Paris Saint-Germain. With such an impressive goalscoring record himself in the competition, it is not beyond Messi to notch 15 goals this campaign, and at least join his rival on top spot.
Will Messi beat Ronaldo's record? Let us know in the comments section.
With a potential 13 games to be played if PSG make it to the final, there is plenty of opportunity for the Argentine to find the net. Messi has already scored four times in as many appearances so far this season, and looks in scintillating form for PSG, who themselves are already running riot in Ligue 1.
If he can carry his performances into the Champions league this campaign, then he has every chance of catching Ronaldo. The United striker will not be sleeping too easily this season, as he looks over his shoulder unable to further his lead.
