Lineker would have ‘snapped your hand off’ for Leicester rollercoaster
Gary Lineker has insisted he would have ‘snapped your hand off’ for Leicester City’s rollercoaster last seven years, despite seeing his beloved Foxes crash out of the Premier League.
Leicester’s 2-1 win over West Ham on the final day of the season proved to be in vain as Everton got the three points they needed thanks to a tense 1-0 victory over Bournemouth.
It has been quite a fall from grace for the Foxes, who memorably won the Premier League title in 2016 under Claudio Ranieri and the FA Cup with Brendan Rodgers at the helm in 2021.

Just two years ago, Leicester were challenging for a Champions League spot and last season they were playing in Europe. But it has fallen apart for the East Midlands club this season, despite the presence of quality players like James Maddison, Jamie Vardy and Harvey Barnes.
Everton are another of Lineker’s former clubs and the Match of the Day presenter initially tweeted: “Absolutely gutted, but glad it’s @Everton. Have a lot of love for that great football club. Congratulations.”

In a more reflective tweet, Lineker wrote: “A word on @lcfc: If 8 years ago, you’d have given me the option of winning the Premier League and the FA Cup and then get relegated, I’d have snapped your hand off. Also I’d have told you not to be so utterly ridiculous.”
A number of fellow Leicester supporters agreed, with one posting: “My granddad and dad, alas, never lived long enough to witness Leicester win the Premier League or FA Cup. Feel blessed it happened in my lifetime. Relegation hurts though. So many wasted points this season right from the first game.”
An Arsenal fan agreed with Lineker’s sentiments, posting: “I think fans of most teams would happily swap their last 8 years with Leicester's, even with relegation at the end of it. I would as an Arsenal fan.”
A third fan said: "If I was a Leicester fan… 100% this. Probably back soon anyway, especially if the owners continue to invest in the club and community."
