Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku blows balloon after scoring leaving fans baffled

Chelsea transfer target Christopher Nkunku scored his third Champions League goal of the campaign – and then baffled the entire football community with his celebration.

The RB Leipzig ace opened the scoring in a dominant 4-0 away victory over Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday night. It was a goal that gave the Bundesliga giants the perfect foundation to tear the match away from the Ukrainians, with second half goals from Andre Silva, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Dani Olmo securing all three points.

However, there was only one talking point from the contest – Nkunku’s odd celebration.

After latching onto a rebound from former Blue Timo Werner, Nkunku made no mistake with the finish, before wheeling away from celebration. The Leipzig crowd went wild, and Nkunku lapped up the celebrations from his side.

But while his team-mates arrived onto the scene to mob him, Nkunku curiously bent down and started rummaging in his sock. As his fellow Leipzig stars concluded their post-goal cuddles and hugs, Nkunku began to blow on a red balloon.

He then lent back, stretched his arms out as wide as he could, and looked up into the air while breathing more air into the balloon. And it has somewhat left fans baffled. “Need an explanation behind Nkunku’s balloon celebration,” one bemused fan tweeted.

“Fair enough, Nkunku. Blowing up a balloon for a celebration,” another equally confused supporter added. “”Nkunku has a balloon in his sock that he blows up when he scores? Hall of fame stuff,” another supporter added.

Meanwhile, more football aficionados pushed for answers. “Why did Nkunku do a balloon celebration,” while another swiftly followed, “Nkunku is blowing on a balloon and I’m not sure why’.”

Nkunku has been heavily linked with a move to the west Londoners, who were reportedly close to agreeing a deal which would see Graham Potter’s side trigger his purported £52.8m release clause, which becomes active next summer.

If such a move is to be completed, Nkunku will need to rummage further into his socks to see if there is a blue one in there.
