  • Leicester are closing in on a deal to sign RB Leipzig winger Ademola Lookman
  • Brendan Rodgers is keen to sign a winger before the window closes at 11pm
  • Lookman spent last season at Fulham where he scored four goals in 35 games

Leicester are expected to pay only a minimal loan fee to sign Ademola Lookman from RB Leipzig on transfer deadline day.

The winger impressed Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers while on loan at Fulham last season, notably when he scored in a 2-1 win at King Power Stadium in November.

Rodgers has been seeking a wide player throughout the summer and Leicester have settled on Lookman, who is to join for the season with an option to buy at the end of the campaign.

Ademola Lookman could be set for a return to the Premier League with Leicester City

Leicester are confident Lookman, 23, will be more successful than the last winger they signed in this type of arrangement – Cengiz Under, who made only nine starts in 2020-21 after he arrived from Roma.

Lookman would be Leicester’s fourth major signing of the summer following the arrivals of Boubakary Soumare, Patson Daka and Jannik Vestergaard.

Meanwhile, Dennis Praet is joining Serie A club Torino on loan and fellow midfielder Hamza Choudhury is again being targeted by Newcastle, also on a temporary basis.

Lookman spent last season out on loan at Fulham where he scored four goals in 35 games

Lookman initially joined RB Leipzig on an impressive loan spell for the second-half of the 2017-18 season from Everton.

He later signed for the Bundesliga side in the summer of 2019 but would only go on to make 13 appearances that following season.

Lookman spent last season on loan at relegated Fulham where he scored four league goals in 35 appearances.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring in another wing to his current set-up on deadline day
