Leicester boss Rodgers 'can only spend a THIRD of £70m Fofana sale'
Brendan Rodgers ‘will only be able to spend a THIRD of the £70m Leicester receive from Chelsea for Wesley Fofana on transfers’… with £15m Reims defender Wout Faes the only arrival expected before deadline
- Chelsea will confirm a deal worth £70m plus add-ons for Wesley Fofana
- The centre-back is set to become the third sale at Leicester this summer
- But Brendan Rodgers will only be able to invest 33 per cent of fee recouped
- The Foxes however are closing on a £15m deal for Reims defender Wout Faes
Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers is facing more transfer frustration after reportedly being told he can only invest a third of the £70million fee received from the sale of Wesley Fofana into his squad.
Chelsea will confirm a deal for French centre-back Fofana worth £70m plus add-ons on Wednesday after the 21-year-old completed his medical in New York.
Fofana is set to become the third sale at the King Power Stadium this summer, and the Foxes have yet to recruit an outfield player with goalkeeper Alex Smithies the only arrival so far.

And The Telegraph report Rodgers will have to put up with more problems after being told he will be given only about 33 per cent of the fee from the Fofana deal.
Financial fair play rules, and a 25 per cent sell-on fee to Fofana’s previous club Saint-Etienne reportedly means Leicester are not expected to make any major signings before 11pm on Thursday.
‘There have been discussions but it is certainly not going to be the whole fee [from Fofana’s sale],’ Rodgers said.
‘I think there’s part of that with Saint-Etienne as well, plus the situation that the club is in. [But] there will be some resources to be able to do some business.
A 25 per cent sell-on fee to Fofana’s previous club Saint-Etienne is also restricting Leicester
‘This summer has been really unfortunate for myself. I might not benefit from this year but going forward the club will, because the club is the most important.
‘I trust the club when they say we can’t spend and bring in players, it’s obviously for the greater good of Leicester City and the model, and the sustainability of it.’
Rodgers added: ‘I think I mentioned before that any environment to develop has to be stable. Our stability is not there.
‘That will change when the window closes. There are players that maybe thought they were moving on but they’re not. We haven’t been able to get players in to improve.
‘And then there are players in the last years of their contracts. We need to beat the drum collectively.’
Leicester however are expected to bring in an outfielder before the deadline, with the club closing on a £15m deal for Reims defender Wout Faes.
The Belgium international was pulled out of his side’s trip to Angers for Wednesday’s French league fixture after Reims accepted an offer from Leicester on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old has agreed a five year contract at the King Power after making 75 appearances for Reims since joining in 2020, having previously played for Heerenveen, Excelsior and Oostende.

Leicester had asked about Borussia Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji but he wanted Champions League football and is heading to Manchester City.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have also enquired about Nice centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo.
West Ham’s Craig Dawson was also discussed. The 32-year old has interest from Aston Villa too but is leaning towards a move to Wolves if manager David Moyes lets him go.
