Leicester 'ACCEPT offer for James Maddison' from Tottenham

Leicester ‘accept offer for James Maddison from Tottenham’, with England midfielder set for medical ahead of £170,000-a-week deal

  • James Maddison is one of Tottenham’s top transfer targets this summer
  • Move appears imminent with Leicester now ‘accepting Spurs’ offer’ for him
  • Maddison has agreed personal terms on a £170,000-a-week deal

Leicester have ‘a verbal agreement with Tottenham for the signing of James Maddison’, with the England midfielder set for a medical.

Maddison has already agreed terms of £170,000-a-week at Spurs and the Foxes have given the green light to the deal.

‘Tottenham have now verbal agreement in place with Leicester to sign James Maddison, here we go!’, tweeted Fabrizio Romano.

‘Next steps: medical tests, documents being prepared and then signed.’

The initial fee is understood to be in the region of £40m according to reports, with add-ons taking the deal to £45m, as Mail Sport reported on Tuesday night.

Relegated Leicester have been resigned to losing Maddison, who was identified as Spurs’ top target.

They look set to see off interest from Newcastle in the 26-year-old, who made 19 goal contributions in 32 appearances last season.

Despite the horrendous form of Leicester, who were relegated on the final day of the Premier League, Maddison enjoyed a solid campaign that saw him earn a call up to England’s World Cup squad.

Maddison has only one year left on his contract and the Championship side evidently regard £40m as a fair price for their most consistent performer.

The playmaker looks set to bolster the resources of new boss Ange Postecoglou, who took up the position after leaving Celtic.

Spurs are increasingly confident of signing Maddison, who appears to be set for a medical

Maddison’s Leicester team-mate Harvey Barnes may yet join him in north London.

Barnes also has interest from Arsenal and West Ham, and could be waiting until later in the window for his future to be resolved while Leicester determine his price.

Spurs made their first signing of the window on Tuesday, securing the services of Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario for £17m with a five-year deal.

The club also made Dejan Kulusevski’s 18-month loan deal permanent after agreeing a cut-price £25m fee.
