Leeds to miss out on Traore, Meslier contract and Kent offer being prepared

Leeds United take on Manchester United on Saturday afternoon, a game that is annually a fierce and action-packed fixture.

Despite there only being a few weeks left of the transfer window, both sides will be lining up with largely the same group of players.

But that begs the question, will that same batch of players be enough for Leeds to consolidate themselves as a Premier League outfit this season?

‘Second season syndrome’ is a phrase that is being used as justification for several predictions citing Marcelo Bielsa’s men as potential relegation candidates, as well as the addition of just three fresh faces who are not certain to directly influence results.

Several names have been linked with a move to Elland Road this summer, and some are beginning to look very likely.

Daily Star Sport brings you the latest transfer news on all things Leeds United.

Meslier commits future to Leeds

Goalkeeper Illan Meslier has signed a long-term contract extension with The Peacocks which will see him playing at the club until 2026.

The French shot-stopper made 35 Premier League appearances last season and kept 11 clean sheets, and with that experience under his belt, there is every chance he can better that tally this season.

Meslier arrived in 2019 on loan from French side Lorient and made the switch permanently after Leeds secured their Premier League status.

The 21-year-old was a commanding presence in between the sticks last season and showcased that he has great potential, which was obviously seen by the France under-21 set-up as Meslier made his debut for them over the summer too.

Liverpool to win Traore race

Who should Leeds sign before the end of the transfer window? Let us know in the comments below

Leeds look set to miss out on one of their transfer targets in the next few weeks as Liverpool have decided to go after Adama Traore.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers winger was one of Bielsa’s targets this season according to 90min, however, they have since revealed that he is more likely to sign for the Reds.

Wolves have slapped a £40m price tag on their strong, pacey forward, and although both clubs are unlikely to match that fee, Jurgen Klopp’s side are more likely to be able to offer figure close to that.

Traore scored two and assisted two in 38 appearances last season and declined a contract extension last year.

Leeds still keen on Kent

The rumours that Leeds are after Rangers winger Ryan Kent have circulated all summer long, however, there is a chance that it could happen according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.

Kent is currently valued at £20m by the reigning Scottish Premier League champions but Bielsa is not willing to offer that sum.

However, speaking on his very own podcast, Hay believes that Leeds may offer a different deal for their 24-year-old.

He said: “The one thing Leeds won’t do is meet Rangers’ valuation, which is about £20million.

“They certainly wouldn’t pay a massive chunk of that up front, they would want it to be incentivised.”
