Leeds star Robin Koch was forced to change his entire kit before being substituted in the Roses Derby against Manchester United after the German came together with Scott McTominay in an X-rated clash.

The fixture has seen Leeds’ supporters in fine voice in what is the first Premier League clash between the two at Elland Road with fans in the ground since 2003.

The atmosphere has certainly added to the ruggedness of the game, with tackles flying in left, right and centre.

That continued into the 11th minute, where German defender Koch went into a tackle with McTominay hoping to win the ball.

However, McTominay’s shoulder connected with Koch’s face, and the former Freiburg star went down clutching his head with blood pouring out.

And the incident was so brutal that the Germany international had to change his full kit in order to resume playing in the derby.

Amazingly, Koch was allowed to play on with a bandage seeing to his loss of blood.

He continued for 20 minutes until he was hauled off in place of Junior Firpo, although the Yorkshire club didn’t take their concussion substitute as per the new rule introduced in pre-season.

And England captain Harry Maguire scored just three minutes later to give the Red Devils the lead.

Koch missed a lot of the season after he picked up a pubis bone contusion after the 5-1 defeat to United on the opening day of the season.

He made his return just before Christmas in the 4-1 defeat at home to Arsenal, and has been an ever-present since.

The 25-year-old has overseen seven points from six under Marcelo Bielsa.

The Argentinian boss has put doubts over his future with his contract expiring in the summer.

“It [the future] is not a subject we should talk about at this moment,” Bielsa said.

“No-one can stay at this level if they cannot guarantee 100 percent enthusiasm – that’s players or coaches.

“The competition will expose those who don’t take advantage of being at this level.”
