Leeds star Kalvin Phillips is set for TWO MONTHS out injured

Leeds star Kalvin Phillips is set for TWO MONTHS out after hobbling off against Brentford… and Patrick Bamford was injured again celebrating his equaliser in a double blow for Marcelo Bielsa

  • Kalvin Phillips hobbled off for Leeds after 55 minutes in their draw with Brentford
  • He could be out until February in what would be a colossal blow for the club
  • Striker Patrick Bamford hurt himself while celebrating Sunday’s late equaliser
  • Fresh injuries to two key players will be of enormous concern to Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds could lose star midfielder Kalvin Phillips until February and be without Patrick Bamford in the shorter term after he injured a hamstring celebrating Sunday’s late equaliser against Brentford.

In a major blow to Leeds’ Premier League survival hopes, Phillips hobbled off 10 minutes into the second half of the 2-2 draw with what is also believed to be a hamstring problem.

After the game, Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa was unable to give a prognosis on the England international’s injury but Sportsmail understands he could be out of action for two months.

In a further setback for Bielsa’s side, striker Bamford hurt himself as he ran off after his dramatic 95th-minute goal against the Bees.

Bamford had come off the bench to make his first appearance in almost three months following an ankle injury, but is now a doubt again for Saturday’s trip to Chelsea.

Fresh injuries to two of his most influential players will be a major concern for Bielsa, whose side are only six points above the relegation zone ahead of a nightmare run of fixtures.

After the trip to Stamford Bridge, Leeds travel to champions Manchester City before hosting Arsenal and then visiting Liverpool.

Phillips, one of England’s most important players during their run to the Euro 2020 final in the summer, missed two Leeds games in October with calf and hip issues — a 1-0 defeat by Southampton and a home draw against Wolves. He was also left on the bench for Leeds’ opener against Manchester United, which they lost 5-1.

Leeds have not been their swashbuckling selves this season and losing Phillips is a huge blow

The Whites have collected just seven points from a possible 36 in the matches that Phillips has missed since their return to the Premier League last season.

Bamford, meanwhile, has only just recovered from the injury he sustained at Newcastle in September.

The forward, who scored 17 goals last season and was called up for the first time by England manager Gareth Southgate in August, missed 11 games in all competitions — with Leeds only scoring eight goals in his absence.

Bielsa has further injury issues after centre back and captain Liam Cooper went off injured after 15 minutes against Brentford and he is also facing a spell on the sidelines.
