A group of Leeds fans have been videoed reportedly buying a set of hospitality tickets for Manchester United for £500, only to set them alight moments later.

The rivalry between the Yorkshire and Lancashire clubs is one of the most intense and highly-charged in the land, with the derby dating back as far as 1925, when the clubs first met, playing out a goalless draw in the old Second Division.

And while it is nearly 100 years on from their first meeting in the English Football League, the feeling between the fanbases is still as hot as ever, with a video emerging online of a group of Leeds fans jesting with their cross-Pennine rivals.

As posted by Footy Accumulators on Twitter, the clip reportedly shows the group purchasing a set of hospitality tickets for a Man United game at a charity auction.

It seems after receiving their tickets, the fans set them on fire and dunked them into a paper bucket.

Meanwhile, the announcer at the event can be heard over a speaker saying: ‘Can we have a chorus of “We Are Leeds”?’

Meanwhile, fans on Twitter tuned in to have their say on the bizarre video with some calling the Leeds’ fans antics ‘cringe’.

Some attribute the origins of the derby between Leeds and Manchester Untied back to the 60s, specifically at the 1965 FA Cup semi-final, that saw a brawl between Jack Charlton and Denis Law break out during the bad-tempered 0-0 affair.

The final was replayed and Leeds took the spoils winning 1-0, but Man United would pip them to the League title later that year.

The rivalry between the two sets of fans has become very fierce in recent years, and that has demanded clubs to step up on security, with their meeting at Elland Road last season being called ‘one of the biggest security operations’ ever seen.

This season, the pair have played twice with the Red Devils rallying late in the second half to secure a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford, before firing another two past their rivals in the return Premier League fixture at Elland Road back in February.
