Arsenal legend Lee Dixon believes Brighton are in desperate need of a striker following the stalemate draw with Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.

The Seagulls failed to get on the scoresheet for the third game running as manager Roberto De Zerbi’s search for a first win with the club continues.

Brighton squandered a number of opportunities to score having registered 19 shots, but they in the end had to settle for a point against Steve Copper’s struggling side.

Dixon insists Brighton are as they’ve been in previous seasons. Speaking on Amazon, the 58-year-old said: ‘They’ve never been prolific anyway. Not a lot has changed really in front of goal.

‘Ultimately, it’s not a case of they need one player to sort it out. You kind of want a centre forward to take most of the pressure in that department.

‘You can score from midfield, but you need a central striker whose going to get goals and they haven’t got one. They’ve not had one for a long time and they’re playing catch up trying to get bits and pieces.’

Danny Welbeck has been used as the focal point in the team this season but he’s yet to get on the scoresheet in 10 appearances despite having three assists to his name.

Eniola Aluko mirrored Dixon’s views as she said Brighton must sign a prolific striker in January

Meanwhile, Deniz Undav, who returned from a loan spell at Union SG this summer, has played just 43 Premier League minutes.

Aluko mirrored Dixon’s views, saying: ‘I think Brighton need a striker. They need to find a prolific striker in January. They do everything right leading up to the box.

’19 shots really Brighton should be scoring and coming away with three points’.

The draw with Forest sees Brighton remain seventh in the table. They will be hopeful of getting their first win under De Zerbi when they visit Manchester City on Saturday.
