Chris Beech has left his role as Carlisle manager after a poor start to the season.

A 3-0 loss at Bristol Rovers on Saturday proved the final straw for the board, who sacked the 47-year-old on Sunday morning.

Assistant boss Gavin Skelton and Eric Kinder, professional development phase coach at Brunton Park, will take temporary charge of a side beaten in four of their last five games.

Ex-Blackpool midfielder Beech was appointed in November 2019 and guided Carlisle to a 10th-place finish last season, his first full campaign in charge.

At the other end of the table, leaders Forest Green were beaten 2-0 at home by Swindon thanks to Harry McKirdy’s opener and a second from Tyreece Simpson.

A record 3,180 crowd watched Harrogate thrash Scunthorpe 6-1 with the first five coming in the first half. Harrogate move up to second in the table while the division’s bottom club limp on.

Manager Neil Cox has only had one win in 24 matches and said: ‘I just have to get on with things while having a look at myself in the mirror.’

There were seven goals in a thriller at Sutton, with the home side coming from 2-0 and 3-2 down to win 4-3 against Port Vale.

Coby Rowe scored the crucial goal in added time — the first league goal of his career. ‘I’m pleased for Coby who missed most of last season with a kidney problem,’ said Sutton boss Matty Gray. ‘Nothing surprises me about my players.’

Leyton Orient denied Barrow a first league win over them since 1969 with a second-half equaliser from Omar Beckles, but the O’s still dropped to sixth in the table.
