Laura Woods compared to Sam Allardyce after amusing FA Cup final moment on ITV
Pep Guardiola previews FA Cup final
ITV presenter Laura Woods was the subject of an unlikely comparison during the FA Cup final. After the final whistle, the Arsenal fan took to social media to make light of the fact that, of all people, she momentarily resembled former Leeds United boss Sam Allardyce.
Allardyce has achieved cult hero status during his time in the Premier League. His interim Leeds appointment in 2022/23 was his ninth managerial position in the English top-flight, although it only lasted four matches.
A Sky Sports graphic of Allardyce with his arms folded while at Sunderland, looking as though he is ‘deciding what to have in the chippy’, has become something of a meme among football fans in recent years.
For a split-second during ITV’s FA Cup coverage, Woods was snapped in exactly the same pose. Posting the two pictures on her Instagram story after the game, Woods wrote: “Why does this keep happening…”

Allardyce is now back on the market as Leeds decided against pursuing a permanent appointment following their relegation from the Premier League. The 68-year-old had previously been out of the game for two years after suffering the same fate with West Bromwich Albion in 2021.
“It has been an honour to manage Leeds United, a great club with an incredible fan base, who deserve to be in the Premier League,” read part of the former England boss’ statement.

Now back on the sidelines, Allardyce will have been free to watch Woods’ coverage of the Wembley clash between Manchester United and Manchester City on Saturday. And it wouldn’t have taken long to get his rewards for tuning in as Ilkay Gundogan fired the Sky Blues ahead inside 13 seconds.
The German struck again in the second half after Bruno Fernandes’ equaliser, with City clinging onto a deserved 2-1 victory and chalking up the second trophy in their audacious treble bid.
“Now is the first time we can talk about the treble,” City boss Pep Guardiola told the BBC after the game. “Against United, it was special for our city, for our fans. We performed really well. Really, really well. I am so pleased.
“We have done incredible, five Premier Leagues, two FA Cups and Carabaos but we have to win the Champions League to be recognised how the team deserves to be. It has been amazing, been fun, but we have to win it.”
