LAFC invite Welsh family to meet Bale after they missed him play
Los Angeles FC save the day by inviting Welsh family to meet Gareth Bale at their training ground… after they had travelled over 5000 miles to watch him play in MLS – only to find out he wasn’t even on the bench!
- The Timms family from Wales traveled to watch Gareth Bale play in MLS
- But the Wales captain was left out of the squad entirely, leaving them ‘gutted’
- LAFC caught wind of the story and invited the Timms to come watch training
- And Bale generously took pictures and signed autographs for the family
A family of four from Wales planned a vacation around watching Gareth Bale suit up for Los Angeles FC, only to arrive at the game and find that the Welsh star was not even in the squad for the match.
Bale has yet to start a game since arriving in MLS, and that trend continued at LAFC’s last home game against DC United.
But when LAFC were made aware of the Timms family’s unfortunate story, they invited them to watch the team practice, with Bale even taking time to chat and take pictures with the group from Porthcawl.

He even signed the boys’ Spirit of ’58, which they luckily had packed for the trip
‘We planned our holiday and we always try to get an MLS match in, and obviously once Gareth Bale was coming, we knew that this had to be the match for us,’ mom Rebecca said.
‘We were hoping and praying Bale would play.’
As captured by a video from LAFC, Bale greeted the family with a smile and apologized for not playing in the game.
The forward even signed the boys’ Spirit of ’58 hats, which they brought on the trip in anticipation of merely watching Bale from the stands.

The Wales captain apologized to the family for not playing in the game they attended
Of course, the surprise meeting comes just three months before the World Cup kicks off in Qatar, and Rebecca’s husband liked what he saw from the Welsh captain.
‘He’s looking sharp, obviously enjoying his time out here in LA at the minute,’ he said. ‘Roll on the World Cup!’
Despite Bale’s limited game action, LAFC haven’t missed a beat, as they still stand atop the Western conference with a comfortable nine point lead.
Of course, Bale isn’t the only household name on the team either, as the club acquired Giorgio Chiellini this summer and re-signed Carlos Vela. Former Barca winger Christian Tello looks set to join soon as well.
The Timms family were grateful that they could go to the LAFC training facility
Regardless, the Timms family got the highlight of their vacation by meeting Bale after the initial heartbreak of not seeing him take the field at Banc of California stadium.
‘We were totally gutted,’ Rebecca said.
‘But we’ve been so fortunate to be invited here to the LAFC training ground to come and see training and see Bale.’
