Kylian Mbappe to Liverpool transfer: PSG confident about talks as top clubs ‘ready’ to bid

PSG: Pochettino opens up on Mbappe plans

Paris-Saint Germain are reportedly confident about tying Kylian Mbappe to a new deal amid speculation linking the striker with Liverpool and Real Madrid. Jurgen Klopp’s side, along with top clubs like Madrid and Barcelona, are said to be ‘ready’ to swoop for Mbappe if PSG cannot reach agreement with the World Cup winner.

Mbappe has long been linked with a move to the Bernabeu, although Premier League champions Liverpool are viewed as rivals for the France star’s signature.

The 22-year-old has praised the Reds in the past, while the appreciation is mutual with Klopp a known admirer of Mbappe’s talents.

But PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is determined to keep his star man, whose contract at the Parc des pricnes ends in 2022.

Al-Khelaifi will hope the recent appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as head coach helps persuade the player.

And transfer guru Fabrizio Romano says the PSG chief is “optimistic” he can keep Mbappe out of the clutches of Liverpool and Madrid.

“He’s negotiating with Paris Saint-Germain,” Romano told Give Me Sport.

“He’s negotiating, and Paris Saint-Germain’s president (Nasser) Al-Khelaifi, is always so optimistic, and, you know, having a lot of money makes it so easy to try (to tie Mbappe down to a new deal).

“But obviously, it’s up to the player to find an agreement on a contract and when you talk with players like Mbappe, like Neymar, it is not a normal contract.

Romano said top clubs across Europe are poised to make their own offers should PSG’s talks with Mbappe prove unsuccessful.

“If Mbappe will not stay at Paris Saint-Germain, obviously, we have to keep (up with) all top clubs trying,” he said. “But I won’t mention like Liverpool or Barcelona, or others, or Real Madrid (because) all the top clubs will be ready to try for Mbappe.”

Romano said PSG’s main focus at the moment is on keeping hold of Mbappe and team-mate Neymar, rather than splashing out on new recruits.

“At the moment I see Paris Saint-Germain really pushing to try and, when you talk with Paris Saint-Germain about new signings, they say ‘our new signings will be keeping Mbappe and Neymar at the club’,” he said.

“So they are working with all (their) energies on this deal and they are convinced they will go till the summer trying to keep Kylian Mbappe for next season and for the future of the club.”

Mbappe has scored 104 goals in 144 appearances for the Ligue 1 side since joining from Monaco for £130million in 2018.

He has netted 12 times in 15 top-flight games so far this season, as well as five in the Champions League.
