Kylian Mbappe sent message to Marcus Rashford after England star’s penalty miss

French superstar Kylian Mbappe was reportedly among the first players to send Marcus Rashford a message of support after England's Euro 2020 penalty shootout heartbreak against Italy.

Rashford, 23, was brought on with just seconds remaining of extra time for the sole purpose of taking a penalty, but he fluffed his lines from the spot as Italy ran out 3-2 winners.

The Manchester United star was one of three players to miss during the agonising shootout loss, leaving the 23-year-old heartbroken.

Paris Saint-Germain ace Mbappe knows a thing or two about what Rashford must have been going through as he watched his effort strike the outside of the post.

Mbappe missed the decisive spot-kick as France were dumped out of Euro 2020 by Switzerland in the round-of-16.

And he was amongst the first to get in touch with Rashford following his devastating miss, according to The Athletic.

It is claimed he 'offered empathy' to the striker and touched on his own penalty heartbreak while urging the star to remain positive.

Rashford, along with team-mates Bukayo Saka and Jadon Sancho, received horrific racist abuse on social media in the aftermath of their misses.

A mural in Manchester bearing Rashford's face was also vandalised before local residents covered the graffiti with messages of love and support.

Fans have since rallied round the trio, and the Red Devils star admitted being overcome with the positive messages he had received from the vast majority of supporters.

In one part of the statement, he said: "I've felt no prouder moment than wearing those three lions on my chest and seeing my family cheer me on in a crowd of 10s of thousands.

"I dreamt of days like this. The messages I've received today have been positively overwhelming and seeing their response in Withington had me on the verge of tears.

"The communities that always had me wrapped their arms around me continue to hold me up.

"I'm Marcus Rashford, 23 year old, black man from Withington and Wythenshawe, South Manchester. If I have nothing else I have that.

"For all the kind messages, thank you. I'll be back stronger. We'll be back stronger."
