Kylian Mbappe puts on France masterclass vs Belgium after teasing retirement

Kylian Mbappe enjoyed putting on a masterclass for the French national team during their thrilling 3-2 win over Belgium on Thursday.

The 22-year-old delivered one of his finest performances for Les Bleus in the semi-final of the Nations League with a goal and an assist as France overcame their rivals.

In doing so, he reached an already impressive international tally of 18 goals and 13 assists while becoming the youngest ever Frenchman to reach 50 caps.

The win takes Dider Deschamps’ team to the final where they will play Spain on October 10, following their victory over Euro 2020 champions Italy.

But Deschamps will be most impressed with the way in which his side clawed their way back from 2-0 down.

Yannick Carrasco fired Belgium in front following some tricky wing play before Romelu Lukaku used his pace and thunderous finish to put France in disarray.

Hugo Lloris was called into action in the first-half with a stunning reflex save to keep France in the game.

Mbappe was at the heart of everything impressive for the 2018 World Cup winners, taking players on with ease and setting up Karim Benzema’s goal.

The Paris Saint-Germain phenomenon utilised his blistering pace and almost set up Antoine Griezmann for another, before scoring a penalty to level the score.

He even had a part to play in the build up to Theo Hernandez’s last gasp winner, which the AC Milan defender tucked away emphatically.

Mbappe’s spectacular display comes following a poor summer at the Euros where he scored no goals and only notched one assist.

The Golden Boy-winning phenomenon even teased a possible early retirement from international duty recently after missing the crucial penalty which saw France crash out to underdogs Switzerland in the last-16.

He stated he felt he was “starting to become a problem” and that people “felt he was a problem” for France, going on to add: "The most important thing is the French national team and if the French national team is happier without me, it is like that."

But it seems there is no longer any danger of that with the Parisian back to his jaw-dropping best.
