Kylian Mbappe aims dig at Christophe Galtier with Instagram post

Kylian Mbappe aims dig at PSG boss Christophe Galtier with deleted Instagram post including snide ‘#pivotgang’ comment… as the French star voices his displeasure at being played as a centre-forward AGAIN

  • Kylian Mbappe deleted an Instagram story including the hashtag ‘#pivotgang’
  • He has previously claimed he does not enjoy playing as a central striker at PSG
  • The French star claims to prefer the freedom of playing behind Olivier Giroud

Kylian Mbappe has once again sparked controversy in France, after the World Cup winner’s now-deleted Instagram post appeared to criticise his positioning at PSG.

The 23-year-old posted an Instagram story after his side’s poor showing against Reims in Ligue 1, which ended in a drab 0-0 draw, with ‘#pivotgang’ beneath a picture of him in action.

The Frenchman had previously been open in criticising his role at his club, claiming he gets far more joy playing in behind a central striker, like Olivier Giroud, than as the centre-forward himself.

Kylian Mbappe has once again reiterated his displeasure at playing as PSG’s centre-forward

Mbappe used the hashtag ‘#pivotgang’ in an Instagram post which was quickly deleted

‘Draw, meeting on Tuesday,’ Mbappe wrote on Instagram, followed by ‘#icicestparis’ and the somewhat more incriminating ‘#pivotgang’.

At PSG, Christophe Galtier has arguably the best problem in world football, in trying to find a way to get the best out of possibly the three best players in the world; Lionel Messi, Neymar Jnr. and Mbappe.

As it is, Messi and Neymar usually play off the right and left respectively, with Mbappe through the middle, but the 23-year-old has been vocal about his discomfort working in that role.

Mbappe previously stated that he prefers the freedom offered by playing with Olivier Giroud

But his displeasure at his position cannot be affecting his game too much, having scored 11 goals in 13 games – though he is infamously yet to assist any of his team-mates.

The deleted Instagram post has reopened questions on his position at the club

The comment could mean one of two things. One, he is poking fun at the situation as whole, having realised that it is bad form to openly criticise how you are being played by your manager – who most players will tell you knows infinitely better.

Or two, he is frustrated after a drab 0-0 draw with a team that his PSG side should hammer, and thinks that his own performances are weakened by being played through the middle, despite it being the better formation for the team.

Mbappe previously stated his desire to play in behind a central striker, as he does for his country, after a 2-0 win over Austria in a September Nations League clash.

He told reporters: ‘I play differently, they ask me other things here than they ask me at the club. I have a lot more freedom here (with the national side).

The French star has had no issues in terms of numbers, having scored 11 in 13 games for PSG

‘The coach knows that there is a number 9 like Olivier (Giroud) who occupies the defences. Me, I can walk around, go into space, ask for the balls.

‘In Paris, it’s different there isn’t that, I’m asked to do the pivot, it’s different.’

The comments also once again bring the player’s position of power at the club into conversation, having signed an eye-watering deal which Forbes estimates earns him just shy of £2million-a-week.
