Kroos claims he rarely watches Barcelona in swipe at Madrid's rivals

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos claims he RARELY watches Barcelona under Xavi because he has ‘other things to do’… as he takes a cheeky swipe at their El Clasico rivals ahead of Wednesday’s Spanish Super Cup showdown

  • The Catalans are unbeaten in their last six games under new manager Xavi
  • Madrid ace Toni Kroos says he has not watched Barca play much in recent weeks
  • But Kroos still admits their El Clasico foes have ‘a lot of high-quality people’

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos says he has not watched many Barcelona games of late in a cheeky swipe at their El Clasico rivals ahead of Wednesday’s trip to the Nou Camp.

Los Blancos are set to go away to Barca in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final, with Atletico Madrid or Athletic Bilbao to come for the victor later this month.

While they currently sit 17 points behind La Liga leaders Real, the Catalans are showing signs of improvement under Xavi, who replaced Ronald Koeman after his sacking in November.

The legendary ex-Barca midfielder is currently enjoying a six-match unbeaten run in all competitions, meaning Wednesday’s El Clasico should be an intriguing affair.

However, Kroos insists he is none the wiser about Barca’s solid form under Xavi because he rarely watches their bitter rivals.

When asked how Xavi’s team compares to Koeman’s, the Germany star said at a press conference: ‘I’ve not watched many Barcelona games lately, I have other things to do and watch our games.

‘But I know them well, they have some doubts but overall have a lot of high-quality people.

‘I can’t say though what has changed under Xavi.’

Real recently slumped to their first defeat in the league since October, losing 1-0 away at Getafe on January 2.

But Carlo Ancelotti’s men have still taken 49 points from a possible 63, and Kroos has been impressed with their overall performances of late.

‘At the start of the season we won a lot of games without playing well,’ he continued.

‘Now we have improved and we’ve done very well in tough games. There are no prizes handed out in January, except the Supercopa.

‘So we have to keep going because there’s a team close to us in LaLiga Santander and if you slip up they’ll be there and if we think it’s all wrapped up we’ll be in trouble.’
