Kylian Mbappe is reportedly seeking a way out of Paris Saint-Germain in January just months after signing a new lucrative long-term contract but the Frenchman has seemingly burned his bridges at Real Madrid following the collapse of his mega-money transfer earlier this year. The blockbuster developments, therefore, pose intriguing questions about exactly where the World Cup winner could end up – should he be serious about leaving the Parc des Princes as soon as this winter.

There are only a handful of clubs in world football that could potentially afford the 23-year-old – one of which is Real Madrid, who now have no intention of re-exploring a deal.

To the surprise of many, Mbappe confirmed earlier this summer that shock talks were held with Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp over a move to Merseyside.

“We talked a little bit, but not too much. We talked a little bit,” Mbappe told The Telegraph of Liverpool and Klopp.

“I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why, you will have to ask her!

“It’s a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.”

The interest was later confirmed by the Liverpool manager himself, who made it clear he felt it would be silly not to at least test the water, to see what kind of figures would be involved.

“Of course, we are interested in Kylian Mbappe, we are not blind!” Klopp declared back in May. “Actually nothing to say about that. Between Kylian and Liverpool, it’s all set. It’s all fine.

“We of course like him, if we didn’t like him we’d have to question ourselves. But we are not, we cannot be part of these battles. There must be other clubs involved but that’s fine. He’s still a great player.”

Spanish outlet MARCA claim PSG would favour selling Mbappe to Liverpool over Real Madrid due to tense relations between the two clubs.

Mbappe is said to feel betrayed by the club in regard to promises that were made when he committed his long-term future. Now it seems like there is no way back.

Meanwhile, Klopp has always had a professional relationship with Mbappe that is full of mutual admiration for one another.

The star forward has praised Klopp’s work publicly on numerous occasions, even claiming back in 2019 that Liverpool were the team he uses on the video game FIFA.

Nonetheless, having blown £85million on Darwin Nunez, it is highly unlikely that Liverpool will have the kind of funds that are required to sign Mbappe this January or beyond. Mohamed Salah also signed a new long-term contract earlier this summer.

It appears they were apprehensive to launch a bid even when his value was at an all-time low as his contract with PSG trickled down.

Now PSG will demand a premium, world-record fee for their poster boy given he is tied down to a long-term contract.

The situation suggests Mbappe could find it difficult to force through a move given that he would likely to cost over £200m – at the very least.
