Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has spoken for the first time about his relationship with Boris Becker after the disgraced tennis ace revealed prison officials refused his visit.
Three-time Wimbledon champion Becker, 55, had asked bosses at HMP Huntercombe if the fellow German could be one of his approved visitors while he was serving his sentence.
But as he revealed in his £435,000 tell-all TV interview earlier this week, they refused saying having the football manager at the Category C jail in Oxfordshire would be a security nightmare.

Speaking to German paper Bild, Klopp spoke in detail about his relationship with Becker which began at the Wimbledon championships in 2015.
He said: ‘Boris is the great idol of my childhood and youth. We first met at Wimbledon seven years ago.
‘My wife Ulla organised it at the time. She knew that I really wanted to get to know him. I followed his entire career and was a huge fan.
‘We then spent a sensational evening at Wimbledon – we were on the same wavelength and had a lot of fun. Due to different schedules, we stayed in touch afterwards.’
Klopp added: ‘We then called and I said to him, among other things, that he absolutely had to write a book.

He then said: ‘Yes, but I think… that nobody believes me “how it really is here”. It was just really important for me to support Boris and tell him that we won’t let him down.
‘Unfortunately I couldn’t visit him because according to the authorities I would have been a security risk if I visited. That’s why it didn’t work out. But that’s no longer important – what matters is that Boris is free again.’
The Anfield hero then said he would be more than happy to have Becker at a match but the conditions of his release mean he will be unable to as he is barred from entry to the UK for at least ten years.
Klopp said: ‘He should first get some rest. If Boris then wants to see a good football game, he’s welcome to do so in Liverpool. Although he tends to support other clubs…’
When asked what he wished for Becker, Klopp replied: ‘Health. That’s becoming more and more important at our age. We’re a vintage. And that he leads a happy life.’
